Tony Fretton Architects' Deinze town hall scheme in Belgium
[First look + plans + project data] Tony Fretton Architects has won planning permission for a 7,500m² town hall and administrative centre in Deinze, Belgium
Planned to start on site in early 2013, the scheme houses the East Flanders city’s municipal departments as well as offices for the mayor and aldermen and a new council chamber.
Tony Fretton Architects scooped the project in an international competition in 2009.
The five-storey building is close to Deinze city centre alongside the river Leie and close to the main public park.
Stone pilasters create balcony-like loggias on all the facades which can be used as informal outdoor places by staff.
A proposed new public space fronting the river will integrate with existing landscaping.
