Free-school pioneer attacks architects again

A key campaigner behind a project to build a free school in West London has spoken out against ‘touchy’ and ‘expensive’ architects

Toby Young’s comment piece in this morning’s Daily Telegraph refutes the link between buildings and academic performance - the second time he has publicly hit out at the profession’s involvement in the design of schools.

He wrote: ‘As the Prince of Wales has discovered, architects are extremely sensitive if you raise doubts about the value of their work. Anyone doing so is branded a philistine or worse.’

Young places architects ‘at the heart’ of Labour’s Building Schools for the Future programme which he says was in certain cases over budget due to ‘vainglorious architects’.
