Foster unveils luxury seafront homes in Miami

The first images have been revealed of a $50 million (£33million) luxury residential tower in Miami designed by UK practice Foster + Partners.

Facing on to the Atlantic ocean, Faena House is the first phase of a neighbourhood planned by developer Faena Group.

Construction is underway and expected to be completed by autumn 2014, adding to a stretch of luxury apartments and hotels on Miami Beach.

Foster + Partners senior partner Brandon Haw said it was a good sector to be working in. ‘The luxury housing market in the US is extremely buoyant just now, both in New York and Miami,’ he told AJ.

‘The Faena House builds upon our success in Buenos Aires with the Faena Group, and adds to our growing portfolio of luxury apartment buildings, such as 50 UN Plaza and a condominium building in Chelsea, both of which are currently under construction in Manhattan.”

The 14-storey Faena House will contain 68 luxury apartments above facilities including a spa, a pool and a fitness centre.

The architects said the sleek, modern lines of the development would ‘resonate with the local style’. It is designed to reduce the need for mechanical cooling during the hot summer months.

Lower levels are elevated above a natural landscape of native planting, grasses and lily ponds, which flow beneath the building and cool the entrance spaces.

Arriving guests enter a light-filled atrium, designed to appear to be floating, while paths lead to four glazed elevator pavilions.

Each apartment is designed to maximise ocean views. All feature full-height living spaces.

Large wrap-around terraces ‘dissolve the boundary between inside and outside, creating verandas in the sky’ according to the architect.

Faena District Miami Beach will include an arts center designed by Rem Koolhaas, a five-star hotel and luxury retail
