Foster scoops planning for Bloomberg media centre
Foster + Partners’ £300 million headquarters for media giant Bloomberg in the City of London has won planning permission
The 110,000m² project at Walbrook Square features two buildings connected by an arcade and a new entrance to nearby Bank underground station.
The buiding was originally being masterminded by a collaboration between Jean Nouvel and Foster + Partners but last year the AJ revealed Foster was working on the scheme alone.
Foster’s 10-storey sandstone design – which sits opposite James Stirling’s No 1 Poultry – was described by DC CABE as a ‘valuable contribution’ to the City and ‘soundly integrated with its context’.
The 1.5ha site, which once housed the 1958 Bucklersbury House and Temple court buildings, has already been cleared.
The ruin of London’s Roman Temple of Mithras will be relocated to its original site as part of the scheme.
