Foster + Partners' first 'complete' hotel opens in London

The ME Hotel, the first hotel fully designed by Foster + Partners, has opened in London

The new 157 bedroom hotel was built next to Marconi House (1904) which was also refurbished by Fosters’ practice and which now houses 87 flats.

To complement the neighbouring building, the hotel was clad in Portland stone and built to a similar height and scale.

Inside the hotel, a black and white palette was used throughout. The hotel features a nine-storey high pyramidal atrium, housing the lobby and champagne bar, which is clad in white marble. The monochrome palette is continued in the bedrooms which are clad in white leather and decorated with mainly black furnishings.

Giles Robinson, partner at Foster + Partners, said: ‘By designing the hotel inside and out, down to the last detail, we were able to maintain a high level of quality and continuity. Inside, the bold black and white interior palette establishes a strong identity – we defined the individual character of each space through variations in tone, texture and scale.’
