Former RIBA chief MacNamara given community service

Former RIBA regional director Jon Jo MacNamara has been handed a suspended jail term for theft

MacNamara was ordered to do 200 hours of community service within 12 months – or face 10 months in prison.

He was found guilty at Newcastle Crown Court of theft amounting to about £6,500 that took place between 31 December 2010 and 13 July 2012.

In April 2012, MacNamara was fired for gross misconduct from his position as RIBA regional director in the North East

He resigned from the Conservative Party prior to local elections in May 2012.

AJ reported in February 2013 that MacNamara had pleaded guilty to stealing from RIBA.

MacNamara ,previously of Jesmond, Newcastle, admitted a single charge of ‘theft by an employee’ at Newcastle Crown Court.
