Fletcher Priest lands planning for 4,000 homes in Hackney

[First look + plans + project data] Fletcher Priest has bagged planning permission for a 34 hectare residential masterplan in Hackney, north east London

The 20-year project for Berkeley Homes, the London Borough of Hackney and Genesis replaces the neglected Woodberry Down housing estate with 3,912 new mixed-tenure homes.

The London-based AJ100 practice’s masterplan – next door to the Stoke Newington reservoirs and historic New River – also includes a new public square and new public parks and open spaces.

The planning approval included detailed designs for the project’s next phase designed by Fletcher Priest and Rolfe Judd. An earlier phase by Rolfe Judd and Wilkinson Eyre has already completed.

Fletcher Priest partner Jonathan Kendall said: ‘It was important that our new masterplan recognised the original ambitions for Woodberry. It has been a great privilege to create the designs that will make Woodberry Down an exemplary London residential district fit for the 21st century.’

Berkeley Homes North East London managing director Piers Clanford added: ‘The whole team has worked tirelessly to produce a masterplan to be proud of, including Fletcher Priest (masterplan and detail) and Rolfe Judd (planning consultant and detail). The improvements to the previous masterplan include an increase of over 30 per cent in public open space, more homes of all tenures and better urban design, all of which has been arrived at through partnership working.’
