First Look: KSS reveals Bulgarian stadium

[FIRST LOOK] KSS Design Group has unveiled its plans for a new stadium in Bulgaria for football club CSKA Sofia

Replacing the existing Bulgarian Army stadium in Borisova Gradina, the 105 million euro (£87 million) venue will have seating for 30,000 as well as sports and leisure facilities.

A KSS Design Group spokesman said: “The leading idea in the development of this preliminary project was to create a multi-functional sports complex, which combines international innovations in the area of sports, with the best interests of the citizens of the city.”

The new arena will be the first in the Balkans to meet UEFA’s criteria for an elite-class stadium, making it a contender for hosting Champion’s League and Europa League matches.

“We hope that the new project will turn into a reliable source of social support for the club, as well as for the sport of football in Bulgaria, something that the entire society will benefit from”, commented Ventzislav Zhivkov, executive director of CSKA.

Construction is expected to take four years and additional funds will be raised through the addition of a hotel, office and retail portion.
