First look at Olympic basketball arena

The Olympic Delivery Authority has released the first images of the proposed basketball arena, following planning approval for the design

The arena will be the third largest venue at the Olympic Park and will be the home of basketball, handball finals, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby and will form the holding area for the athletes at the opening and closing ceremonies.

A multi-disciplinary team of Sinclair Knight Merz, Wilkinson Eyre and KSS Design Group was appointed by the ODA in November 2007.

During the Olympic Games, the temporary arena will house up to 12,000. Following the completion of the games, the ODA claim two thirds of the materials and elements of the arena can be reused or recycled.
