Farrell submits mixed-use Paddington scheme

[FIRST LOOK + PROJECT DATA] Terry Farrell and Partners has submitted plans for this 434-home development at Paddington Basin in Westminster, London

Centred around a ‘biodiverse’ landscape, the design features five buildings containing housing and 18,600m² of retail and commercial space. The scheme also provides 91 socially rented dwellings and 2,800m² of ground and first-floor community space.

The development is part of a £350 million Farrell-designed masterplan for the regeneration of the former canal basin district. The practice was appointed to the masterplanning job in May 2008 after working in the area for 30 years.

A new green space encircling the development will include an ‘indigenous woodland’, flower beds and nature trails.

Each of the new buildings is topped with a green roof and make use of photovoltaic panels and a grey water recycling system.

The North Wharf Gardens project could also benefit from a proposed medical clinic, community crèche, youth centre and business start-up support centre.
