Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton, south London, by Zaha Hadid Architects

[FIRST LOOK + PROJECT DATA + PLANS] Zaha Hadid Architects has completed this £36.5 million academy for 1,200 pupils in Brixton, south London

The Evelyn Grace Academy, which sits on a 1.4 ha inner-city site, includes a running track, dance studio and sports hall.

The design features two middle schools and two upper schools – each with separate access – grouped around shared central social areas.

According to the practice: ‘[The] Academy presents itself as an open, transparent and welcoming addition to the community’s local urban regeneration process.

‘The design of the building, proffers that, which contemporary architecture can, to create a healthy atmosphere as a milieu for progressive teaching routines.’

Construction started in 2006 on a former disused council depot site.

  • Typical Zaha design, though her ranking on 'the wip list' has dipped. I guess that has something to do with her rigid PR team. This design, I like.

  • hold it..... Been deciphering this project and it's clear that Zaha Hadid's Vienna University of Economics and Business soon under construction in Austria is a combination of Evelyn Grace Academy and MAXXI. OMG
