DSDHA and Kevin McCloud to redevelop hospital site

Television presenter Kevin McCloud’s development company HAB and DSDHA have been chosen to develop a former hospital site in Cashes Green, Stroud

The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) selected HAB Oakus, a joint venture between McCloud’s company and housing group GreenSquare, ahead of seven other bidders to deliver the 78-home development in Gloucestershire along with allotments and a new community building.

Under the agreement, Hab Oakus will build all the units to level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes and work with the Community Land Trust, Gloucestershire Land for People and local residents.

It is the first time a housing-focused Community Land Trust proposal will be delivered on HCA-owned land and a full planning application is expected to be submitted before the end of the year (2010).

McCloud said: ‘This is a scheme that could show how future housing developments, driven by local communities, could be unlocked.’

Hab Oakus is already working with the HCA on the 42-home ‘Triangle’ scheme in Swindon designed by Glenn Howells Architects which bagged planning permission in October last year.
