DRDH’s Norway library and concert hall start on site
Work has begun on DRDH Architects’ competition-winning £65 million concert hall and library in Bodø, Norway
The up-and-coming London studio won an international contest to design the 5,500m2 city library and 7,350m2 three-auditorium music hall in 2009.
The concert hall consists of three venues, including a 920-seat main auditorium, a second 250-seat auditorium and a music venue. The three-level library includes a flexible performance space, gallery, multifunction room and cafe.
The project will be completed in early 2014. The new Cultural Quarter is part of a wider urban masterplan with the new performance centre and library at its heart. The site is located across two city blocks on the harbourfront.
Located within the Arctic Circle, the coastal city of Bodø is the second largest conurbation in northern Norway.
