Do it for the profession: Architects and designers fill in this AJ survey

Complete the AJ State of the Profession Survey and you could win an illustrated history of Long Island modernism

Take the time to fill in the AJ State of the Profession survey and we’ll report back with an accurate, up-to-date snapshot of the industry.

In 2009, this eye-opening survey, the largest of its kind at the time, revealed how a shell-shocked profession was reeling amid the worst peacetime recession since 1931 (see AJ 20.09.2009). .

The new research will be just as extensive and in just five minutes asks about industry confidence, international projects, practice workloads, the rise of social media and how we at the AJ can help you, our readers.

The survey is confidential, but entrants can choose to throw their hat into the ring to win Caroline Zaleski’s Long Island Modernism (rrp £50.00), featuring 200 black-and-white and 20 colour illustrations showcasing little-known architectural gems from the ‘hotbed of modernism’ close to New York.

Documenting commuter houses, holiday homes, universities and office complexes, the large coffee table book explores the social and civic drivers behind the rise of modernist architectural in the wealthy suburb.Spanning from the 1930s to he 1980s, Zaleski’s publication includes works by Marcel Breuer, Frank Lloyd Wright, Paul Rudolph, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Richard Meier.

The results of the anonymous survey will be published in December.

The AJ will be launching a separate questionnaire looking at the issues effecting students and the challenges facing the education system later in the year.
