‘Deptford Update’ design exhibition extended

  • Comment

‘Deptford Update’, an exhibition outlining all new design projects for the Deptford area at the APT Gallery in South East London will be extended til 6 December. Photography, excluding opening night and other event photos, by Ioana Marinescu

The highlights of the exhibition are images and details of the urban plan for Deptford Creekside, proposals for the Kender Triangle in New Cross Gate and improved pedestrian connections. Speculative housing proposals from students at the Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio, Switzerland are also on display.

Alongside the work, a wall mural will present the ‘current and proposed development projects in context’. Design for London are asking visitors to comment on the proposed improvements and feedback will be considered by the planning agencies.

The exhibition, which contains a private meeting room available without charge to local organisations, includes drawings and models of a wide spectrum of disciplines, including architecture, landscape and urban design.

Accompanying the exhibition is a series of heritage walks around Deptford, design workshops and design review opportunities for architecture students working in the area. The exhibition is being used as an opportunity to initiate a two-day design charette which aims to build on a previous event in June 2008. Heritage Advisor to Design for London, Edmund Bird will lead a talk-and-walk and the Creekside Trust is hosting a Creek walk, both of which aim to give background to the proposals in the exhibition.

The exhibition has been commissioned by Design for London and the London Development Agency, in partnership with London Borough of Lewisham. The exhibition is open until the 29th November 2009, with extended visiting dates from 4-6 December 2009.
