Construction starts on Hopkins' 2012 Velodrome

Work on the Olympic Velodrome, designed by Hopkins Architects, has begun at the site in Stratford, London

Designed to be one of the fastest tracks ever constructed, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has been consulting with the architects and gold medal-winning cyclist Chris Hoy to tailor the track geometry, and set the temperature and environmental conditions within the venue to create a record-breaking track.

The 6,000 seat velodrome will host the Olympic and Paralympic indoor track cycling events in 2012, and will be used by elite athletes and the local community after the Games are complete.

The venue design includes a concourse level, offering 360° views over the Olympic Park.
