Chicago’s Navy Pier, a Latvian coastal resort and public realm improvements in Bath. The editor’s pick of this week’s top competitions

An international design competition has been launched seeking proposals to revamp the Navy Pier tourist attraction (pictured) in Chicago, United States. The $85 million project seeks a new ‘pierscape’ for the area’s five individual parks which together attract 8.6 million visitors a year. A multiple phase selection process will decide the winners along with $50,000 going to each finalist [Requests to participate to be received by 20 September]

A competition has been launched to find schemes for a four-star hotel in Latvia’s coastal resort of Jurmala. Designs for the hotel should include 120 rooms, as well as a restaurant, bar, conference facility and swimming pool. The brief also requires that some of the existing structure be reused. [Requests to participate must be received by 10 October]

Proposals for the improvement of public spaces and streets in Bath’s city centre are being sought as part of Bath City Council’s Public Realm and Movement Strategy. The 18-month contract is worth £150,000, and includes a range of work from street furniture design to landscaping new public spaces. [Requests to participate must be completed by 12 September]
