Chipperfield lands Tchaikovsky Theatre contest

David Chipperfield Architects has won the competition to re-design the Tchaikovsky Theatre in Perm, Russia

The practice staved off competition from Avery Associates Architects, Danes Henning Larsen Architects, Holland’s Neutelings Riedijk Architects, PLP Architecture and Russians Sergey Skuratov Architects to bag the project.

The project is for a new 1,100-seat auditorium, rehearsal spaces and foyer with restaurant and shop, together with the re-build of the original 19th century theatre.

Commissioned by the Perm Region, the scheme is expected to complete in 2014.
