Charity auction of 100 sketches and models of the City raises more than £80k

An auction of artworks by 100 architects and artists has raised £82,337 for built environment charity Article 25

A signed model of the Gherkin by Norman Foster fetched £4,500 at last Thursday’s 10 x 10: Drawing the City auction - a new annual fundraising event organised by architects Tim Makower of Allies and Morrison and Stephen Taylor of Stephen Taylor Architects.

Drawings of the City of London by 100 leading architects including Norman Foster and Ted Cullinan, several former RIBA presidents and Kevin McCloud were donated and put up for sale in support of Article 25’s post-disaster reconstruction work around the world.

Following the success of this year’s event it is understood invited architects will be asked to draw their interpretation of London’s West End in 2012.

All the artworks are available to view online here.

The auction was organised by Sotheby’s Adrian Biddell and other ‘big ticket’ items included Norman Ackroyd’s water colour of the City’s skyline which sold for £2,000.
