Casper Mueller Kneer's White Cube gallery scheme scoops planning

Casper Mueller Kneer has won planning permission for a project to build a new White Cube gallery in Bermondsey Street, south London

Part of collaboration between Mueller Kneer Associates and German practice Büro Jens Casper, the project will transform a disused warehouse into an exhibition and events space.

Plans for the gallery are understood to include a ‘large piazza entrance’, two galleries, storage space and an auditorium.

According to London SE1, White Cube’s director of exhibitions, Tim Marlow told Southwark Council’s planning committee: ‘We were looking to to expand both abroad and in London and were talking to various bodies, but we were also looking for a warehouse and we happened upon this extraordinary space in Bermondsey and then realised that it was a wonderful opportunity.’

The committee unanimously voted in favour of the designs.

The practice claims construction of the scheme has already started on site and the gallery is due for completion in October 2011.
