Burwell Deakins wins Truro medical residences contest

Burwell Deakins Architects has been chosen to design a residential development for doctors and students at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust at Treliske in Truro, Cornwall

The south London-based practice was chosen following a limited competition run by client by Plymouth University ahead of Stride Treglown and Willmore Iles.

The scheme provides living quarters for 100 doctors and 130 medical and dental students, arranged as four and five bedroom units in a series of independent pavilions ‘working with the existing landscape to create an informal arrangement with high quality amenity space’.

The four-storey, timber frame blocks will have be clad in brick at ground floor with the upper storeys will be faced in locally sourced timber.

The project is due to start on site in July 2011.
