Broadway Malyan has won an international contest for a new business park in Chengdu, Western China
The AJ100 practice beat five unnamed international teams to win the Chengdu Creative Centre scheme.
The mixed-use development – featuring a 110m-tall skyscraper – will be the centrepiece of the city’s Tianfu New Town expansion.
Broadway Malyan teamed up with environmental engineers Cundall and the Shanghai-based East China Architectural Design & Research Institute to land the prestigious project.
The studio’s winning design features offices, retail and green spaces. The project has also been designed to consume half as much energy than is mandated by local standards.
Jeremy Salmon of Broadway Malyan said: ‘Our expert design team will now work in close partnership with the wider project team to realise the client’s vision and demonstrate that well-designed urban development in China can create sustainable and environmentally-conscious places.’
Chengdu has been earmarked to become China’s western centre for logistics, commerce, finance, science and technology.
