Broadway Malyan unveils Algarve marina plans

[First look] Broadway Malyan has revealed these images of its proposed mixed-use marina project in southern Portugal

The scheme for client Lusort was won in an international design competition and is part of wider plans for the redevelopment of Marina de Vilamoura.

Broadway Malyan’s design features retail and hospitality space alongside a new headquarters for the client and local port authorities. A workshop, shipyard and 106-vehicle capacity underground car park are also included in the designs.

Margarida Caldeira of the practice said: ‘The striking canopy seemingly floats over the marina buildings, public space and pedestrian terraces in harmony with the marine environment.

‘It will create an iconic gateway to the renowned marina, and raise the profile of the outer harbor, as well as provide shade for the buildings and public areas during the summer, and protection from the elements in the winter.’

The scheme was designed out of the company’s office in Portugal’s capital city, Lisbon.
