Brighton Council's in-house team completes playgroup 'pavilion'
[First look + plans] Work has finished on this new £650,000 playgroup building in Hollingbury Park, Brighton
The single-storey ‘pavilion’, designed by Brighton and Hove City Council’s in-house architect design team, replaces a rundown 1920s structure.
Funded by the local authority and the Sure Start Early Years Capital Grant, the ‘robust, modernist’ building has a covered, outside terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows.
Councillor Vanessa Brown, cabinet member for children and young people, said: ‘We know that the first years of a child’s life are crucial for their future development. Research shows high-quality early learning and care is important because children who attend higher-quality pre-school provision tend to do better throughout primary school, particularly in reading.
‘This modern and very light new building will help to ensure that the children who attend the playgroup here will have the best possible start in life.’
