[First look + project data] Bowman Riley Architects has completed this £7 million youth centre in Bradford

Funded by the government’s national Myplace programme, the Culture Fusion project included the overhaul of a derelict, city centre warehouse and the addition of a new five-storey extension.

The building houses a dance studio/recording studio, performance space, climbing wall and abseiling facilities, advice centre, hostel, emergency accommodation, ‘peace pod’, studies area, adjacent prayer room, IT spaces, roof-top cafe and garden, games pod and an urban meadow.

Laurence Teeney, design director at Bowman Riley Architects, said: ‘The success of Culture Fusion is a testament to the importance of end user involvement in design development.   We helped create an environment that truly achieves the aspirations of the young people of Bradford.’

The Culture Fusion scheme was a collaborative project between Bradford YMCA and Bradford Metropolitan District Council and the major funding came from Myplace, a Big Lottery Fund programme to deliver youth centres across England.
