BFLS to design Shard apartments

BFLS has been appointed to design 11 floors of luxury apartments at top of Renzo Piano’s 288 metre-tall Shard skyscraper in London

Located just below the tower’s public viewing platform, the ‘Shard Residencies’ will be built on floors 53 to 65 creating the highest apartments in the UK, it is claimed.

BFLS is designing 10 flats and three duplex apartments for the project. The major scheme for the practice follows on from its work on the fit-out of Roger Stirk Harbour + Partner’s One Hyde Park, also in London

When the 72-storey tower completes in 2012, its occupants will be given full access to services and facilities of the Shangri-La Hotel below and will also have their own private entrance on St Thomas Street.

A spokesperson for Sellar Developments said: ‘Sellar Design + Development have established an in-house world class team responsible for the  “Interior Design” and for masterminding the “Shard Residences” covering all aspects of the luxury fit-out .

‘This includes the organisation of spaces, selection of materials and consideration of even the smallest details. As part of an experienced design team, BFLS are commissioned as “Executive Architects” to assist in delivering the fit-out for the “Shard Residences”.’
