BDP wins American School of Paris job

BDP has won the competition to design a new campus for the American School of Paris (ASP)

The UK practice – ranked second in this year’s AJ100 – saw off Hopkins Architects and US outfits TruexCullins and Flansburgh Architects to win the work.

Founded in 1946, the ASP was the first International School established in Europe and remains the only American School in France. The private school, which sits in parkland at Saint-Cloud in the western suburbs of the French capital, boasts actress Eva Green and Prince Phillip among its alumni.

The victorious design includes a revamp of the existing block, which currently houses about 800 students.

Chris Harding, BDP’s director of architecture, said: ‘We’ve found the careful planning and professional approach by ASP to briefing and engagement an extremely positive and stimulating experience.

‘We are excited by the commitment and enthusiasm of the school community and have a strong belief that we will be able to work collaboratively with everyone at the school.’

The project is BDP’s French educational debut. Plans will be submitted early next year.
