Basildon £1bn regeneration approved

Basildon District Council’s cabinet has pased plans for a £1 billion regeneration of the Essex town

Along with new housing and infrastructure, the project will include construction of shops, offices, and transport and community facilities.

A Barratt Homes and Wilson Bowden joint venture has been invited to submit a final tender for the development partner contract, which could be awarded by October.

Council deputy leader councillor Stephen Horgan said: ‘This is a very important project for Basildon. It reflects the confidence in our community and the hard work of the project team that it is still on track despite the recession.’
