BACA sole UK practice asked to join Netherlands design competition

Fresh off the back of its Docklands Barges win, Baca Architects is one of nine international firms invited by the Municipality of Nijmegen to propose ideas for a new peninsula in Holland

The young practice joins a selection of more established practices invited to draw up proposals for a peninsula that will be created as part of an extensive dyke relocation programme to make room for the River Waal.

Baca were invited as a result of their work with water: The LifE project for DEFRA, Dordrecht flood-proof pilot of floating and amphibious homes, Silvertown Surf and the Docklands Barge win.

The brief calls for a 70m residential tower, new footbridge, approx. 200 houses and a new theatre. The full shortlist is: West 8 Architecture, Rotterdam; Neutelings Riedijk, Rotterdam; Vera Tanovshtchinsky Architectens, Gravenhage; Mecanoo Architecten, Delft; 24H Architecture , Rotterdam; Schneider & Schumacher, Frankfurt; Atelier Dreiseitl, Uberlingen; Baca Architects, London.
