AZPML and Space Group shortlisted in Finnish interchange contest

Alejandro Zaera-Polo’s practice AZPML and Space Group Architects have both been shortlisted in an ideas contest for a new transport interchange in Tampere, Finland

The two London-based practices are the only UK outfits on a five-strong shortlist competing for the coveted award.

Each team will receive 80,000 to compete and will have until 27 June to submit designs.

  • Alejandro Zaera-Polo & Maider Llaguno Architectur and Architects Lahdelma & Mahlamäki Oy (architecture and urban planning / Great Britain, Finland) and WSP Finland (traffic planning, Finland)
  • COBE ApS and Lunden Architecture Oy (architecture and urban planning / Denmark, Finland) and Ramboll Finland Ltd (traffic planning, Finland)
  • Karres en Brands Landscape architecture + urban planning and Benthem Crouwell Architects (architecture and urban planning / the Netherlands) and Ramboll Finland Ltd (traffic planning, Finland)
  • KCAP Architects and Planners (architecture and urban planning / Switzerland) and Trafix Oy (traffic planning, Finland)
  • Space Group Architects and Buro Happold ApS (architecture and urban planning / Norway, Denmark) and Trafix Oy (traffic planning, Finland)

The project will create a new travel centre integrating rail services and the city tram network alongside 100,000m² of retail, offices, and housing.

The winner will be announced in October.
