Atkins to pay £10m for 1,200 job redundancies

The giant engineering and architectural group, Atkins has announced it has spent £10 million as a result of 1,200 job cuts

In an update on trading for the year ended 31 March 2009, the firm attributed the losses primarily to a stagnant UK building market coupled with the slow return of confidence to the Middle East.

The firm remains confident, however, with pre-tax profits for the year ended 31 March 2009 anticipated to be in line with current market expectations. In a statement, it said: ‘The Group’s order book remains solid and we are confident that the Group is well placed to address the challenges in the year ahead.’
