Atkins opens new Qatar outpost

Atkins has opened a new office in Qatar after trebling its headcount in the country in 12 months

The UK-headquartered engineering and design consultancy now has 300 staff in Qatar, including 25 architects.

Atkins was appointed earlier this year to provide planning and integration resources for a Central Planning Office, which will co-ordinate key transport schemes for Qatar over the next 20 years.

The company hopes to secure design work as well as the country gears itself up to host the 2022 World Cup.

‘There are really exciting opportunities in the market for our architecture team, with the drive very much towards achieving a world class built environment,’ said an Atkins spokesman.

‘Huge capital investment is taking place in sectors such as rail, hospitality and sports facilities, which we’re well placed to support thanks to our combination of local knowledge and international expertise.’

Atkins has been working in the Middle East for 40 years and had a role on projects including the Burj Al Arab, Dubai Metro and the Bahrain World Trade Center.
