Assael bags go-ahead for Wandsworth Hotel

[FIRST LOOK] Assael Architecture has won planning permission for this hotel and ‘business academy’ in Wandsworth, south London

Construction work on Eclipse Hotels-backed 122-room hotel project is expected to begin in mid-2011.

Assael Architecture’s six-storey design for a disused car showroom site will feature a 184m2 restaurant, a 310m2 business academy and space for 25 cars in a basement car park.

Councillor Nick Cuff, chairman of planning applications at Wandsworth Council, said: ‘This investment will bring this vacant and semi-derelict site back into productive economic use and provide employment opportunities to people living in the area.’

The practice withdrew its original plans for a larger hotel of 158 rooms with a roof terrace and basement parking for 53 cars following objections to the scale of the project.
