Architecture 00 to overhaul The Winch

East London firm Architecture 00 has seen off an impressive shortlist to win the competition to refurbish The Winch - the famed youth community centre in Swiss cottage, north London

The practice was selected ahead of 36 applicants, including fellow finalists Maccreanor Lavington, Gort Scott, East, dRMM and NORD. The centre’s existing five-storey Victorian building - the former Old Winchester Pub - will be given ‘a new lease of life, updating it for the growing needs’ of the young people in Camden.

Paul Perkins, director of The Winch, said: ‘The practice displayed creativity and imagination in tackling some of the seemingly incompatible proposals laid out in our brief.’

The practice will now develop a number of feasibility proposals to a maximum budget of £3 million.
