Architects sought for £40m Somers Town overhaul

London’s Camden Council is seeking architect-led design teams for the £40 million overhaul of Somers Town near St Pancras

Winning architects will work up feasibility studies and designs for three lots. The first features an £18.4 million housing development and new build school.

The second will include an £8.5 million private housing scheme with ground level commercial uses and the third lot is a £3.8 million community hub.

A fourth lot also covers landscape and masterplanning for all three plots.

Construction is planned to begin in 2015 and complete by mid-2018.

Documents will be available through Camden’s allocated page up until the deadline for responses which is 9 March.

The four lots

  • Lot one; the Edith Neville School & Polygon Open Space site. The appointed team will be responsible for housing development on the site and the design of the new build primary school with an £18.4 million budget and appointment from RIBA stage 0 to 4.
  • Lot two; Brill Place Residential in Central Somers Town. Made up of a new private residential development with commercial occupiers at ground levels with an estimated budget of £8.5 million on Brill Place through RIBA stages 0 to 3.
  • Lot three; Community Facilities in Central Somers Town. Set to include a ‘community hub’ housing a nursery, residents hall and community garden, the build has a £3.8 million budget with the successful team appointed from RIBA stage 0 to 4.
  • Lot four; overall urban landscape and public realm works across lots one to three. Co-ordination of the three architectural teams selected for the previous lots will fall under lot four’s responsibilities.
