Announced: Winner of AJ's Prometheus chair contest

AJ’s July competition to win an Omni chair, as seen in summer blockbuster Prometheus, has been won by AJ subscriber Stephen Haben

The Red Dot Design Award-winning chair featured in Charlize Theron’s starship quarters in Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel, and was designed by Carl Öjerstam, founder of Stockholm-based consultancy Carl Design AB for competition sponsor Kinnarps.

Marc Bird, Kinnarps’ UK head of marketing said: ‘We were pretty excited when Omni chairs were chosen for Vicker’s suite on Prometheus, especially as the set design team was under the direction of the legendary Arthur Max and we discovered that the famous posterior gracing our upholstery would belong to Charlize Theron.’

Bird says the chairs powder coated aluminium base and sleek, minimalist form has proved durable. ‘It’s why, even when one of the two chairs we loaned to Prometheus’ producers was blown-up in deep space, it suffered only minor damage!  I’m sure the winner of the AJ competition will be relieved to hear that their chair was returned from the set in perfect condition.’

Contest victor Haben correctly answered that it was ‘God’ who a Prometheus crew member claimed didn’t ‘build in straight lines?

Omni was launched at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in 2008.
