Amanda Levete's Wapping plan approved

[FIRST LOOK] Tower Hamlets has granted permission for the re-modelling of the main building at the News International Wapping compound

The HQ will give a united home to News International, Harper Collins, MySpace, Dow Jones, Fox and related businesses for the first time and will help to regenerate the Wapping site.

Amanda Levete Architects designed the new building, which will open up the Wapping site with publicly accessible walkways and public spaces that will include a restaurant and a museum.

The proposal includes a 33m-high atrium carved out from the original print works with a series of other atria along main circulation paths.

The plans aim to provide over 4,300 jobs, some of which will be apprenticeships and internship schemes for local residents.
