Amanda Levete reveals 'twisting coil' design for Bangkok

Amanda Levete, formerly of Future Systems, has revealed designs for a new retail and hotel complex in Bangkok, Thailand, under the title of her own firm, Amanda Levete Architects

The design merges a podium and tower with a twisting coil that wraps around the retail podium, enclosing and exposing a series of exterior courtyards and roof gardens for the hotel.

Called Central Embassy and located on the commercial artery of Ploenchit Road in the Thai capital, the 139,000m² site will occupy the former gardens of the British Embassy in Nai Lert Park and consist of the seven-storey retail podium and a 30-storey, six-star hotel.

Work is scheduled to begin on site in 2010 and is due to be completed in 2013.
