Alsop scoops planning for Waterloo hotel

Will Alsop’s and Scott Lawrie’s ALL Design has won planning permission for its first UK project – a 995 square-metre apart-hotel on Lower Marsh near Waterloo Station

The recycled shipping containers scheme uses Alsop’s ‘My Space Pod’ modular building system, and can be dismantled and relocated if required.

The ‘STOW apart-hotel’ project occupies a currently vacant site within a conservation area on Lower Marsh. In 2010, Atkins revealed a £3 million public realm scheme for the road’s regeneration.

ALL Design‘s ‘neutral and yet contemporary’ scheme features 36 rooms over 6 floors, designed to accommodate business travellers and tourists.

Rooms measure 13.5m² and feature an en-suite bathroom, kitchenette and floor to ceiling window at the front.

The ground floor will include a reception area, small café and A1 retail space.
