Allies and Morrison's Globe theatre overhaul revealed

[First look + plans] Allies and Morrison has unveiled its vision for the redevelopment of the Globe’s Jacobean theatre in London

Set to open in 2014, the project creates a new 340-seat theatre named after the Globe’s founder Sam Wanamaker.

The predominantly candle-lit space will feature two tiers of galleried seating and a pit seating area.

The design was influenced by Inigo Jones’ protégé John Webb’s early drawings for an English theatre.

Allies and Morrison has also designed a new foyer as part of an upgrade to the public spaces serving both the Globe and The Sam Wanamaker Theatres.
