Alison Brooks completes Wildspace

[First look] Alison Brooks Architects (ABA) has taken the wraps off this 4000m² warehouse refurbishment project in Rainham, east London

The project transformed five derelict industrial units into a 90 metre-long ‘supershed’ for start-up businesses.

Dubbed ‘Wildspace’, the scheme features a timber clad ‘wild west’ façade at its North East end which is close to Rainham marshes.

‘[The] units are expressed as approximately [13 metre] wide strips of vibrant colour visible from passing Eurostar trains’, according to the practice.

The ‘super insulated’ building achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating.

Commissioned by the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation, the project encourages successful businesses to re-locate to Rainham.

ABA won the project through the LDA Framework Agreement in 2009. The scheme started on site in September and completed last month.
