AJ exclusive: Architects complete East London Line stations

[FIRST LOOK + PLANS] TfL has unveiled images of JSA Opus’s Shoreditch High Street station and Weston Williamson’s Hoxton station on the new East London Line

JSA Opus Architects’ new viaduct and concrete box at Shoreditch High Street is designed to allow safe future over-development on the Bishopsgate goods yard site.

Chris Vella of the practice said: ‘The staircase, ticket office and station are organised by the viaduct and linked by glass elements.’

JSA Opus inherited the scheme from Wilkinson Eyre who worked on the earlier stages. They were tasked with adapting the design to meet legislative requirements for sub-surface stations.

Vella said: ‘[There are] large office residential schemes planned for that site that would go over the tracks.’ Terry Farrell + Partners has masterplanned the area, which is set to include a raised ‘high-line style’ park.

At Hoxton station Weston Williamson has created retail spaces in a series of brick arches under the station. Chris Williamson said: ‘[The scheme] was building on the work we did for the Jubilee line at London Bridge.

‘The station itself is all within the existing arches and the stairs and lifts both plug onto the sides of it.’

The practice took over on the project from Wilkinson Eyre, who had previously worked up feasibility proposals to stage B.

The new line is set to open for trials next Thursday (15 April), running from Dalston Junction in the north to New Cross, Crystal Palace and West Croydon in the south. The full service will start on 23 May.

The £1.4 billion upgrade to the London Overground includes four new stations: Shoreditch High Street, Hoxton, Haggerston and Dalston Junction.

  • Might want to ask Scott Brown Rigg how their Crystal Palace Station refurbishment is going as although the stations in the article above might be up & running work on above platform works at Crystal Palace have yet to start even though the line opens very soon.

    Budget cuts anyone??
