AJ Buildings Library now open to all AJ subscribers
The AJ Buildings Library (AJBL), a digital archive of more than 1,000 projects, is now available to all AJ subscribers as part of their subscription
Described as ‘seriously impressive and dangerously addictive’ by Urbed’s Jonathan Brown, the Library showcases important British architecture dating back to 1900. It includes essential projects featured in the magazine over the last 20 years and will continue to grow.
Piers Taylor, partner at Mitchell Taylor Workshop, said: ‘It’s a great resource and so well formatted, it’s amazing no one else has thought of it.
‘To be able to search by building typology, architect, material, genre, detail, roof or wall element is fantastic, and exactly how we need information made available.
‘I’ve no doubt it will become the precedent library for architects and students alike.’
John McRae of ORMS added: ‘We used it for researching a new science building for a school, looking at the adjacency of rooms and their sizes. It’s usually so difficult to find the plans and sections all together. But this is a great source of information.’
Christine Murray, editor of the AJ said, ‘We wanted to give our readers more. Access to the AJ Buildings Library is a historical first, and the most compelling addition to an AJ subscription we could think of, with huge benefits for students and architects alike.’
‘We developed the AJBL as a tool for researching building precedents, but it is useful through all RIBA work stages, from feasibility studies to detailed design’
Existing subscribers can log in to the AJ Buildings Library to get unlimited access to this searchable archive of project data with more than 20,000 drawings and images.

The AJ’s Building Library will prove to be a fantastic resource, not just for the profession, but for anyone interested in architecture. It will only get better as more projects are uploaded. So I urge all to engage with it.
