AHMM and FCB make Gallions Quarter design team

A design team including Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, Fielden Clegg Bradley Studios, Maccreanor Lavington and MUF Art and Architecture has been appointed to design the Gallions Quarter at the Royal Docks in East London

The London Development Agency has selected Notting Hill Housing Trust as its preferred developer for the ‘unique and stunning’ Royal Docks which includes 700 homes and 50,000 sq ft of retail and community space.

Notting Hill Housing Trust’s director of development John Hughes was delighted. He said: ‘We will create an environment with a strong sense of character inspired by the historic importance of the Docks and the communities who lived and worked here’.

The Gallions Quarter site sits within the Albert Basin area at the end of the Royal Docks. As the major landowner of the docklands the LDA is working closely with the London Brorough of Newham to realise the full potential of the area.

Stephen Kennard, a spokesperson from the LDA  said: ‘We want to create a new sustainable community in Gallions Quarter… build new homes, new business spaces and community spaces, all to high quality design standards, helping to create a lasting legacy in the Albert Basin.’

Proposals drawn up for Notting Hill Housing by the design team are expected to be submitted for planning in January 2012 with the project scheduled for completion by 2018.
