Aedas brings four-day week to UK offices

Global giant Aedas is the latest firm to introduce shorter working hours across its UK offices in an attempt to avoid further job cuts

The practice confirmed it is following in the footsteps of the likes of Essex-based CHBC Architects (AJ 04.12.08) and introducing a four-day working week.

The AJ understands that the company’s Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow offices are all working fewer hours, and rumours continue to circulate that the Leeds office has followed suit.

A spokesperson for the practice said: ‘Some of the office’s hours [have been] reduced in order to retain gifted and valued staff and stave off redundancies.

‘This means those offices are working according to a four-day week. We cannot predict how long this will last, but it is considered a short-term measure,’ she added.

Meanwhile, Claire Shuttleworth, spokesperson for global practice HOK, admitted that the firm’s London office had ‘offered the option of reduced working hours to their staff’.

She added: ‘[The offer] has been available for the last six weeks and I imagine it will still be an option for the next few months at least.’

Elsewhere, Allies and Morrison said it has made a second wave of redundancies, letting 11 more staff go, in addition to the 10 laid off before Christmas after losing the Olympic media centre to a design and build team.
