Adjaye completes floodproof New Orleans house

[FIRST LOOK] David Adjaye has completed this floodproof house in New Orleans for actor Brad Pitt’s charity Make It Right

It is one of 150 homes built by a raft of top international architects including Morphosis.

Over 4,000 homes were lost when Hurricane Katrina hit the city five years ago.

Make it Right was founded in 2007 and has so far raised $31 million to build floodproof housing.

  • very nice - but does this provide for the elderly and disabled folks that may live in the town?

  • House on stilts... where I have I seen that....basic common sense (well done Adjaye) in a flood area and don´t believe those new levee walls are full proof. Such common sense and yet they are rebuilding in other areas exactly the same houses that proved so inadequate during Katrina. Just like building timber hoses in tornado corridors... very american. Ps make sure there is a water deposit on the roof, just in case.
