Above & Beyond lands Leeds cycle point contract

Architect Above & Beyond has bagged the £500,000 job to design Leeds City Station’s new cycle point

The scheme is part of a £5 million programme to transform UK railway stations into cycling hubs. The two-storey structure will house 300 cycle stands and include a staffed retail and repair area.

Andrew Stoddart of the Huddersfield-based practice said: ‘We have extensive experience within the transport sector, having worked on numerous successful industry projects, so delivering a solution for the test case at Leeds City Station is an exciting project for us.

‘The right design could affect the way in which the UK rail network embraces cyclists.’

Design work began last year and construction on the pilot scheme is now under way.

Leeds City Station is the pilot for the project, which mirrors Dutch cycling hubs.
