AAVA reveals polished-black Blackheath homes plan

London-based AAVA has submitted plans for this nine-flat scheme, clad in polished, black stainless steel for a ‘challenging site’ in Greenwich

The five-storey development in Bramshot Avenue, south east London has been designed with a ‘sawtooth’ elevation and so that all the apartments are shielded from the busy A102.

The practice’s Oliver Jackson said: ‘The whole plan achieves full height glazing to ensure good daylight penetration and ventilation.

‘A series of vertical angled black mirror-polished Stainless Steel Rimex fins are proposed to clad the building - providing a robust yet landmark facade to those passing. Perforated aluminium panels placed across the elevation but focused around the access core have acoustic glazing behind to allow additional light through - as highlighted in the visual.

‘In this way the proposed development endeavours to be an appropriate addition to the empty yet prominent corner of Bramshot Avenue.’

The scheme for developer vfund replaces a lapsed permission for a four-storey office block on the site. A planning decision is expected early in the New Year. Construction work is expected to begin in April.

AAVA has worked with structural engineers William Attwell & Associates on the design.
