6a lands Milton Keynes art gallery overhaul

London-based 6a architects has been appointed to expand Milton Keynes’ iconic MK Gallery

The rising star practice has been picked to double the contemporary art gallery’s exhibition space and create new purpose-built community and events facilities.

MK Gallery director Anthony Spira said: ‘Milton Keynes epitomizes the modern. Its association with technological innovation in this country, with such landmark developments as Bletchley Park and the Open University, its energy and pace of growth are inspiring.

‘We hope our plans for the new development will capture that energy and creativity and create a cultural destination worthy of this city for the next generation.’

The project, focussing on MK Gallery’s current site, is expected to complete by 2017 in time for the new town’s 50th anniversary.
