Hawkins\Brown lands Enfield tower block overhaul

Hawkins\Brown has been appointed lead architect on the £25 million Highmead regeneration project in Edmonton, north London

The practice will now produce a detailed design for around 100 mixed-tenure homes, 1,200m2 of commercial space and 250m2 of community facilities on the 0.6ha site, which currently houses a rundown 1960s tower block.

Russell Brown, director at Hawkins\Brown, said: ‘Highmead is the first of a series of projects initiated by Enfield to kick start the regeneration of communities across the borough.

‘The aim of the project is to attract new people from all across London and to help rekindle civic pride for local people.’

Detailed planning permission will be submitted in November 2010, with a view to appointing a development partner in September 2011.
